Day 4 December 4th 2012

DAY 4  December 4th. Isle of Pines, New Caledonia.

A light rain fell all day, but that didn't stop us exploring. Isle of Pines was a small island surrounded by heavily timbered undercut islands. Upon first glimpse of Isle of Pines one was left with little doubt about the origin of the place's name, each tiny island littered with tall pine trees. It was a tender port, so having Juan Diego take us to jump the queue was fantastic. The locals had what appeared to be stalls selling woven hats, floral headpieces and food set up everywhere - but it was all free!

We tasted their Hungi and brought a sample back for Andy, wrapped in a banana leaf. But by the time we got to the tender, it was oiling and juicing all through Raina's bag. Sorry Andy - the fish loved it!

Even with the dull day, the colours were amazing. The water was an awesome aqua and the greenery was just SO green. It was then back off to the ship, which looked stunning tendered off in the channel, for rock climbing, sleeping and, hmmmm, yes, drinking. And eating.

5pm Concierge Club. Our group was now strong and included Peter and Linda from Bowen, Brian and Emma from Brisbane and Christine and Alan from the Sunshine Coast, as well as Roxanne and Norman from Sydney. The wonderful Captain Sindre came up to join us and of course could not resist the urge to pour a few drinks. He was most impressed when Andy asked him to make an 'Aquavit' - a super strong Scandinavian drink.

We went to Giovanni's for dinner and ate and drank too much. No live show was needed. We had Sarah and Chris.
